What is Wellness Travel?
Wellness travel has been around for many years, since the early 2000’s. Initially wellness travel was associated with a spa experience. However, that has now expanded to include healthy food, fitness activities, nature, and reconnecting with family and friends.
Wellness travel is a form of self-care that allows you to maintain, enhance or start a healthy habit or lifestyle, and increasing your sense of wellbeing.
A wellness vacation begins with an intention to travel with a focus on your health and wellbeing. It can include spa treatments, healthy eating, culinary experiences, fitness activities and adventures in nature (walking tours, hiking, kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, skiing, snowshoeing) , and educations programs that focus on kick starting new habits to incorporate into our daily lives. Volunteering may give you a sense of wellbeing so “voluntourism” experiences can be included as part of your healthy living and wellness travel. Environmental sustainability and wellness for our planet are also key components to wellness travel.

For someone else wellness travel may involve a yoga retreat, an opportunity for solitude and quiet reflection
